Jackson 5. The Beach Boys. Kings of Leon. What do these bands have in common? Blood ties and incredible talent! But now we must be sure to add The Hunts to the list. Consisting of twin sisters Jenni and Jessi, and their five brothers Josh, Jonathan, Jordan, Justin, and Jamison, this musical family hails from the farmlands of Chesapeake, Virginia, and are bringing the harmonious and melodic sounds of alt-folk to Cherrytree/Interscope Records.

Growing up, the family admits to not having much; one thing they always had was the influence of music. Their mother owned a music school, thus the Hunts learned violin at a young age. Their father, a guitarist, also passed down talent to the sweet-faced bunch. As the Hunts grew older, they acquired an interest for other eclectic instruments, including the mandolin, ukulele, banjo, drums, and piano, in addition to singing.

Covering tunes and performing original material, The Hunts began as a local feature. Then in 2007, the family took off in a van, making stops around the country and brushing their hands off at the end of the year knowing they had completed around 100 shows.

Up until 2012, The Hunts were very much an independent band, touring everywhere and collecting plenty of miles. But once their demo CD reached the hands of producer Mark Carman, things began picking up for them. We Were Young, which features 10 original songs that were recorded over a mere four days, was received better than they could’ve anticipated. “Make This Leap” found airplay on the radio, and was enough to catch the attention of those at Songs Music Publishing, and later Cherrytree Records/Interscope Records.

The Hunts’ debut EP with Cherrytree/Interscope has been available since its digital release on August 19th. At a modest three tracks, The Hunts plan on spreading their sound through Life Was Simple, and a U.S. tour in September. Check out the official tour dates on their website at thehuntsmusic.com, and watch the music video for their first single, “Make This Leap,” on VEVO!
